Course Overview

A basic and advanced interactive course about 4D echocardiograpy using GE and Philips scanners, and TomTec workstations to foster the implementation of 4D echocardiography imaging in the daily routine of the echo labs.
This course includes live scanning sessions with models and expert guided hands-on sessions on workstations.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the added value of 4D echocardiography to assess the anatomy and the pathophysiology of the various heart diseases and be able to incorporate its use in the daily practice of the echo lab
  • Integrate 4D echocardiography information in the clinical decision making
  • Assess cardiac chamber geometry and function using 4D echocardiography
  • Use 4D echocardiography to perform quantitative analysis of heart valve morphology and function
  • Define the most important clinical uses of 4D TTE and TEE
  • Understand the role of 4D echocardiography in structural heart disease interventions
  • Recognize the role of 4D echocardiography to assess the most common congenital heart defects

Denisa Muraru

Denisa Muraru is a cardiologist, currently working as a researcher and echocardiographer at the University of Padua (Italy). She graduated from the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine in Bucharest (Romania). In 2011, she moved to the University of Padua (Italy) in order to perform clinical research in the field of 3D echocardiography and received the PhD degree in 2013. She has co-authored 85 papers, 40 textbook chapters and more than 160 abstracts. She has been co-author and reviewer for several EACVI recommendation papers. She is a regular invited speaker at the ESC Congress, EuroEcho Imaging Congress and EACVI Teaching Courses, and is co-Director of several courses and scientific meetings on 3D echocardiography organized by the University of Padua. She is member of Editorial Board of European Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging and Journal of American Society of Echocardiography. She has been elected Councilor in the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) Board 2016-2018 and chairs the EACVI Education Committee.

Luigi P. Badano

Prof Badano is Professor of cardiovascular imaging at the University of Padua School of Medicine, Padua, Italy and currently serves as the Director of the Echocardiography laboratory.
Prof. Badano’s clinical interests include native and prosthetic valvular heart disease, right ventricular and atrial function, with research interests in three-dimensional and deformation imaging echocardiography and cardiac mechanics.
Prof Badano is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiology, Italian Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound, European Society of Cardiology, European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology
Prof Badano is a regular lecturer at ESC, ACC, ASE and EuroEcho scientific meetings. He has more than 260 peer reviewed publications, authored 7 books about echocardiography and cardiovascular imaging and is past-president of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging. He is honorary member of the British Society of Echocardiography, Romanian, Hungarian and Korean societies of cardiology. In 2013, he was awarded with the silver medal of the European Society of Cardiology for his clinical and research activity and his commitment as President of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.
